Trims and Moldings for Laminate
Flooring
A laminate floor is like a lego system, you need all the parts
to make it work. Trims and Moldings are an integral part of
any laminate flooring installation. Selecting the right molding
for the right
application, to begin with, will save you time and money. Moldings
are color coded to your floor and are usually sold per piece
with sizes ranging from 3’-8’. Most laminate moldings
require a u-track, which either comes packaged with the moldings
or is sold separately. When installing moldings always remember
to leave an expansion gap.
Quarter round
Quarter round is used to cover the expansion gap between the laminate floor
and the wall around the perimeter of the room. It is only required if there
is no baseboard, but can also be used in conjunction with baseboard, thus
creating a nice additional feature. From a design perspective it is often
nicer to coordinate your quarter round with the color of your baseboard instead
of the floor.

Reducer
Bridges the gap between two uneven surfaces, reducing from laminate to thinner
floor covering products such as vinyl and bare concrete.

Square nose
Used to provide a smooth transition from the laminate flooring surface to adjacent
carpet installations, sliding glass doors, floor to ceiling windows, or bathtub
and shower surrounds.

T-molding
Used to bridge the expansion area required between laminate floors, from one
room to another, or as a transition between laminate flooring and a floor
of equal height.

Stair nose
Used to provide a secure transition from the flooring surface while allowing
the floating flooring system to expand and contract freely at the step-down
location.

Base board
Used to provide an eye-pleasing transition from the laminate floating flooring
surface to the adjacent wall while covering the required 5/16' expansion allowance
along perimeter walls
